Written for the busy school administrator, school psychologist, special educator and other school leaders, it serves as a research-based, yet practical guide that pulls together key principles, information and resources helpful in the process of developing and implementing school-based programs. The reader will gain an understanding of the essential elements that contribute to quality intensive programming as well as information related to positive behavior management supports and program evaluation.

About the Author

Dr. Coats has been a psychologist in the schools for the past 28 years, specializing in the treatment of children with serious emotional and behavioral disabilities. He received his BA in psychology from McGill University and MS and PhD degrees in educational psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He holds national certification as a school psychologist, as well as certification in New York State as a school district administrator. Dr. Coats has served as a trainer with the National Crisis Prevention Institute, adjunct professor at Russell Sage College, therapist with the Caleo Counseling Center and consultant to a number of schools across New York State. He has presented at the local, state and national levels on topics relating to behavior management, special education, psychological trauma and children's mental health.
